I think some reviewers don't really get the idea of this very straightforward book. Before you buy a weighty encyclopedia of Web Optimisation promising you that it's easy to do it yourself, read this handbook first-it will only take you an hour and a half.
Sure, if you then decide you do want to go ahead and optimise your own website (madness, unless you have bags of free time) then you will need to get some more detailed and up-to-date info...but you can get this for free on the web.
However, if, like me, you decide after reading the Ultimate Web, you don't have the time or can't be bothered to do it yourself, then at least you will have had a very good grounding in the basics of Search Engine Optimisation. This is really useful if you are going to employ a professional SEO. It will mean you will totally understand what they are talking about.
Highly recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this useful book on web promotion. I thought I'd be able to get all the information I needed from the internet. However the problem is that if you ask Google, Yahoo etc. to search web design/promotion you get 145,000,000 references. So you really need to know what you're looking for. On the other hand The Ultimate Webite Promtion Handbook tells you all the basics and a lot more in an easy to read format. I need to advertise my services online and needed to know how to increase my web presence. This book has helped me to get started and if I need extra information from the net I now know where to go.Well written, clear and thorough.

I could not put this book down; read it in one session. Chris Standring's style of writing is like a combination of American confidence with British restraint which isn't surprising since he's an English guy living in california. He doesn't tell you that you'll be a billionaire and that you're a loser if you don't buy this book. He simply says you can earn a good living if you follow his advice but you will have to put a lot of time into it.It is more web optimisation and search engine advice than straight web design. But who needs any more web design books? Most of the book is just common sense marketing but wih some really clever tips, especially at the end of the book. I'm sure there are things he doesn't cover but all the basics are there. Brilliant!

I'm delighted to find that this book, written by a web professioinal, is surpisingly easy to get to grips with. Highly readable, just enough explanation without being too technical. There is step-by-step guidance on improving all aspects of web pages, shown with examples. I've found it a big help for locating website building resources; giving plenty of useful links -- which I haven't had to spend my own time searching for. Loads of lovely stuff and quite a few ideas which were new to me.
